And for those of us who have personal competitions with Excel every day, at the office/school/home, Excel expert David Ringstrom has some great tips for you.
Hidden Treasures in Excel
How often do you run into strange things when you’re working in Excel? Are they quirks, or bugs, or features? Sometimes it’s hard to decide!
David Ringstrom has been a spreadsheet consultant since 1991, helping clients and teaching courses. Tapping into his decades of experience, David has just released a new book – Exploring Microsoft Excel’s Hidden Treasures.
The subtitle gives us more details on what’s in his book:

David’s publisher sent me a digital copy of the book to review, and I was impressed by its contents, and enjoyed diving into several of the chapters. I learned a few quirks about my favourite Excel topics, and discovered things I didn’t know about Excel’s newest features.
And be sure to follow David’s advice in Chapter 1, and use the Feedback command on the Excel Ribbon’s Help tab. You can let Microsoft know what you like, or don’t like, and make suggestions for new features (or vote on other people’s suggestions).
I fully support the suggestion to add the “Center Across Selection” command to the Excel Ribbon!
Who Is the Book For?
David’s book is for intermediate and advanced Excel users who want to save time, build better workbooks, and avoid Excel’s pitfalls and problems. You might think, “I don’t need an Excel book — the internet answers all my questions.”
But this book can help you find useful Excel features that are so well-hidden you didn’t even have questions about them! For example, thanks to a tip in the book, I remembered Full Screen View, that was removed from the Ribbon in Excel 2013, and put it back on the Ribbon.
And unlike the internet, Excel’s Hidden Treasures is well organized, with a detailed table of contents, and a comprehensive index.
Also, every chapter has a companion Excel file to download, so you can easily try each technique. The files are well constructed, and you’ll get ideas from them too!
