Someone on Twitter said this recently:
- “Microsoft Excel has no keyboard shortcut for “save as”. Probably because they are *only* on version 11.”
That was one of the Excel tweets that I posted on Saturday. However, as Jason Morin pointed out in the comments, you can use the F12 key to open the Save As dialog box.

Why didn’t the tweeter know about the F12 shortcut for Save As?
Well, when you go to the Keyboard Shortcuts topic in Excel’s Help, there’s an incomplete list. It doesn’t even show Ctl + S as a shortcut to Save, let alone tell us how to do a Save As.
To find a full list of Excel Keyboard shortcuts, you can download one of the following files or view the list on the web page.

Funny thing… I’m just working on a VBA course for a client, and one of the things I wanted to look up was a list of existing shortcuts so that the user wouldn’t accidentally overwrite a useful one.
I knew of this unwieldy article: http://office.microsoft.com/en-ca/excel/HP052037811033.aspx
Great links! 🙂
Ken, glad it helped!
Hi again!
I accidentally came to this site while reading some articles and I’ve found two interesting articles already. In fact, I have to work with MS Excel all the time. The company I’m working for loves it by some reasons. However, I’m not quite familiar with this application so when I wan to save I would go to File…Save… and when I want to do some other things, I would go to menu and find something there. I love the way you put them in groups. Make it easier for me to look up. Thanks!
Hi Debra,
I compiled a list of the Alt activated shortcuts with a bief explanation of each.
The list is complimentary to the ones posted above.
